Q&A with Jules & Thom!

on Tue, 12/01/2020 - 16:49

Connecticut made history when it’s very first plant-based coffeehouse opened: Jules & Thom. Cool Beans!!! A shoreline local hot spot, Jules & Thom is located in the historic town of Clinton, CT. This scenic area does not fall short of expectations, with Bailey’s Dog Park across the street and the Jesse Buell Forest trails to explore further down the road. Walking into Jules & Thom, you instantly feel your mood uplifted, with hip vinyl beats playing to a dazzling array of colour around you. From the playful dog prints on the wall, to the rainbow coloured whimsical drinks, it is truly an immersive experience of  the senses.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Jules & Thom to learn more about their unique business.

Tell us how your coffee shop and gallery was born?

We were driving through the neighborhood that we both grew up on and saw a "space available" sign on the window of what later became our shop and the rest is history.

Tell us more about The Doggo Collection, and Sunday Cartoons: Weebles & Tails… What is “colour of the week”?

Our drawings are all based upon the same palette of 64 colours. Using a standard palette and other techniques like standard line weights and things like that, it allows for our two artistic styles to blend together as one. The Doggo Collection® is our tribute to the dog breeds of the world. We have been in the process of drawing all of the world's dog breeds for the last couple of years now (we've finished 90 so far). Sunday Cartoons® is our weekly cartoon collection that we collaborate on. It features a handful of different mini-series that we have developed, one of which is Weebles + Tails. W+T revolves around two squirrels who observe strange matters of life.

We love your Jules & Thom heart logo, please tell us more about it.

Our heart logo represents positivity and togetherness.

Who or what has inspired you to make this brick and mortar dream a reality?

We constantly inspire each other to propel the vision of our dream by motivating each other and keeping our efforts consistent.

Living in a pandemic with COVID-19, what kind of year has 2020 been for you & what have you  learned? Can you give any advice to those struggling during these times?

"There is no shortcut to anywhere worth going."After running a new store for a year, this quote rings more true to us than most. Our advice is to never give up on your personal dreams + goals regardless of COVID or anything other distractions. We have learned that sometimes to project forward, you need to take a reflective step back before you can advance; sort of like a slingshot.

If you could serve a cartoon character a drink, who would it be and which drink would you choose?

Probably like either a "Special" Chocolate Milk or like maybe an Iced Panama Red to like Shaggy from Scooby Doo.

Where do you see the future of your business?

Our biggest long term goal at the moment is to finish drawing all of the dog breeds of the world. We have a lot of fun with coffee, but our passion and long term goals + interests are primarily with our cartoons. :)

Thanks Jules + Thom!
